Sabine's history is a long and sordid tale :) ....

Beej and I both want to explore the world by boat. However, as we traveled down the road of preparation we got a little diverted. Our hopes and plans first rested with a Formosa 41 we purchased in early 2000. We named her Sabine after a character in one of our favorite books. The Formosa treated us very well over the 2002 season and we were very sure the we would be cruising aboard her in the long term. But the best laid plans.....

We had the opportunity to step aboard a boat in CT towards the end of the summer. This wasn't just any boat...it was an Island Trader 41 the exact model boat that we had been looking for in early 1999 when we decided to buy a boat to live on. A little known fact about the Formosa is that BJ had a family emergency that prevented her from being very involved in the decision process when we bought her. When we stepped aboard the Island Trader in CT this summer we instantly felt a bond with her. We felt safe, comfortable, self assured, and ready to go. Although some might find it strange, half our decision was made based on that feeling. There were tangible reasons like the aft stateroom, easy line handling, and center cockpit that we took into account. But, when it comes right down to it....it really just felt right. We think when you are going to stake so much of your life goals on something (whether it is a marriage, a house, or a boat), you have to trust your feelings.

One of the very funny ironies was that when we found the Island Trader it was named TARA VANA which is Tahitian for CRAZY MAN !!! It all clicked, so we bought her and have re-christened her Sabine. There is a lot of other information about the boat that we will place on our website in the coming months...including a letter to a previous owner from Sabine's designer William Garden !
